Commonly Asked Questions?
Do I have to know how to swim?
Yes, a basic swimming ability is required. Our Coaching Team will help you to learn the various strokes, rules and guidelines that you will need for competitive swimming.
How do I get to be a SHARK?
Each September, there are free tryouts for those new swimmers who are interested in joining the Chatham Pool Sharks. Watch the Chatham Daily News sports page for a notice that free tryouts are being held with the dates and times. At the end of the month, the Coaching Team will make a decision based on space availability, swimmers performance and training attitude. Not only will this help the Coaches see your potential, it also gives the swimmer an opportunity to swim for the month to see if she/he wants to make a commitment to this sport!
How many Swim Meets will I attend?
The Shark Team breaks swimmers down into four levels. Most new swimmers will start out on the Blue Team and will attend the S.E.A.L. League Meets which are held one Sunday per month from October until April. This one day event might be hosted by Chatham, Blenheim, Wallaceburg, Sarnia, Windsor, Leamington, London, or Alymer Swim Teams. When you are ready and move up to the Gold Team, you might consider attending some of the competitive meets which are held at various locations i.e. Brock University, University of Guelph, etc. These meets are sanctioned by Swim Ontario and most are based on your times in the water.
Is swimming an expensive sport?
Swimming is very comparitive in costs to most sports today. The Chatham Pool Sharks off set the cost by running bingos and various events throughout the year in attempts to keep the costs at a minimal. A membership book is presented during September tryouts to outline the costs for all Levels.
